GSA Head Lene Jensby Lange &

Vega Schools' Co-Founder Sandy Hooda

Visit Unterstrass Schule

Lene and Sandy visited Unterstrass Schule to meet with their leadership and saw how students took over the entire school (management and teaching) for the week, giving children a great learning experience and teachers time to plan and reflect.

"Visiting Unterstrasse School in Zurich today with Sandy, founder of Vega Schools with whom GSA works together closely. School and teacher training with attached elementary school. Also nice meeting with Jürg Scoch that runs the school. Each year high school students run the school from beginning to end for a week - so get teachers and management have time for reflection and training. Pictured here is teacher training."

The world's most mentioned schools: High Tech High and Ørestad Gymnasium out together with GSA head in

Copenhagen, Denmark

"I baren kl. 17.17: Her har vi virkelig fat i verdensstjerner. Skoler fra øverste hylde i Chili-Klaus’s taksonomi. Når der laves lister og kåringer over verdens mest innovative skoler, er disse to sikre kandidater. “Inside the schools that dare to break with traditional teaching” skrev Guardian for nylig i en af de usandsynligt mange omtaler, netop disse to skoler får globalt.

"In the bar at. 17.17: Here we really grasp the world stars. Schools from the top shelf of Chili Klaus's taxonomy. When making lists and awards of the world's most innovative schools, these two secure candidates. "Inside the schools that dare to break with traditional teaching" wrote Guardian recently in one of the most unlikely many mentions, these two schools have worldwide. International media cuddle covers where visitors pouring in by the thousands from all parts of the world - with good reason. We talk about High Tech High Schools in San Diego, where Loni has helped to start the High Tech Middle Chula Vista, and Ørestad Gymnasium, where Allan is significantly rector with exciting activities and views, he would like to bring to the market on his blog. Both schools have consistently broken new ground with the clear aim of future work in separate contexts - educational, digital and physical - and is also among the eight handpicked schools in Global Schools' Alliance Lene in 2015 was put in charge of. (Psst: Loni, since the High Tech High has been a drop by Innovation Unit in the UK, has just moved to Denmark. Then came up the bar and bid her welcome to our country and send her home with lots of new friends:-))"

Global conference with GSA member school students

Students from four of our GSA schools met up on video conference this Tuesday to discuss how they can collaborate. So great to see all these kids and young people full of enthusiasm and curiosity, wanting to work across borders and create something together.

We learned that the high school students from Albany Senior High (New Zealand) spend every Wednesday working on their impact projects and have no classrooms. We learned that the high school students from Ørestad Gymnasium (Denmark) work a 100% digitally increasing their independence of space and time. We learned that the primary students at Hilltop Road Public School (Australia) work in a very creative environment looking at real-world problems. And we learned that students at Liger Learning Center (Cambodia) has published books on both Cambodian wildlife and economy. By the way, Liger students are looking to build a blog with informal playground games from around the world so please get in touch if you want to share good outdoor (non-tech) games that children play!

GSA Head Lene Jensby Lange

attended Vega Schools opening

'Warm congratulations to Vega Schools on their successful opening yesterday. Such a pleasure to see children on their first day of school enjoying themselves as they start this new, important chapter of their lives. We cannot wait to welcome all your students to join the community of learners in our schools across the globe, and to continuously push the frontiers of education with everyone at Vega. I spent two whole days just taking it all in, mainly from the children's perspective, seeing the excitement of the very first school day; enjoying how the learners interacted with the spaces, the resources, and each other; and chatting with a few parents. My favourite part was drawing flowers with Aanya, 4 years old, while she unsuccessfully (entirely my fault) tried to teach me how to count to three in Hindi. Got some homework to do... No doubt this school format will play its part in children developing their social-emotional skills while gradually becoming independent and collaborative learners. Hope to be back soon to enjoy and support the development of this ambitious school.'
